How Nyotam works

Everything you need to predict with confidence — how markets work, how they resolve, and how payouts are calculated. Can’t find an answer? Contact us.

Getting started

What is Nyotam?

Nyotam is a prediction market for Uganda and East Africa. Each market asks a real-world YES/NO question — about football, politics, business, culture and more. The stakes people place form a live probability: the YES% you see is the crowd’s collective forecast, and it moves in real time as people predict.

How do I make a prediction?

Open any market, choose YES or NO, enter how much of your balance to stake, pick your confidence, and confirm. Your potential return updates live before you commit. You can predict on as many markets as you like.

What is my balance in?

Balances are in Ugandan Shillings (UGX). New accounts start with a balance so you can learn how markets work before adding your own funds.

What do the percentages and the “×” multiplier mean?

The YES% / NO% is the share of the pool currently on each side — the crowd’s implied probability. The multiplier (e.g. 1.8×) is your potential return per shilling staked at the current pool sizes; it changes as more people predict, so settling earlier or later can change your odds.

How markets resolve

How is the outcome decided?

Every market publishes its resolution criteria and source links before you stake — you can read them in the “Resolution” section on any market page. After the market closes, the real-world result is checked against those criteria and the market is settled YES or NO, with an evidence link attached that you can view on the market page.

When does a market close and resolve?

Each market shows its close date (when predicting stops) and its resolution date (when the outcome is expected). Some real-world events take time to confirm, so resolution can follow the close by a little.

What if I think a market was resolved incorrectly?

Settlement is meant to be transparent — the published criteria and the evidence link are there so you can check the reasoning. If you still believe a market was settled wrongly, contact us with the market link and your reasoning and we’ll review it. See the Contact page.

What happens if a market is cancelled or voided?

If a question can’t be resolved fairly (it becomes ambiguous, or the event is cancelled), the market is voided and every stake is refunded in full — no fee is taken.

Payouts & fees

How are winnings calculated?

Nyotam uses a parimutuel (pooled) model. When a market resolves, everyone who predicted the winning side splits the entire pool in proportion to how much they staked. So your payout is your share of the winning side multiplied by the total pool — which is why backing the less-popular side, when you’re right, pays more.

Is there a fee?

A 5% platform fee is taken from the pool when a market resolves. The multiplier and “potential return” shown before you predict already account for it, so what you see is what you’d receive.

When do I get paid?

Payouts are credited to your balance automatically the moment a market is resolved — there’s nothing to claim.

Wallet, deposits & withdrawals

How do I add funds?

Where real-money deposits are enabled, you can top up with mobile money. Your balance updates once the payment is confirmed.

How do withdrawals work?

You request a withdrawal to your mobile-money number and it’s paid out to you. For everyone’s safety, some withdrawals are briefly reviewed before they’re sent.

Are there limits?

Minimum and maximum amounts apply and are shown at the time you deposit or withdraw. Limits exist to keep the platform safe and compliant.

Account & security

How do I sign in?

See our Privacy Policy for exactly what we collect and why. We never see your mobile-money or Google password.

Responsible prediction

How should I use Nyotam?

Predict for insight and entertainment, and only ever stake what you can comfortably afford to lose. Outcomes are uncertain by nature — there’s no guaranteed win. If predicting ever stops feeling fun, take a break.
